? The lab needs 125 mg of hair (about 1/2 tablespoon). A cardboard scale is included in the kit to ensure you send enough hair.

? No. Although the sample must be taken from as close to the scalp as possible, we'll show you how to collect the sample from multiple areas, ensuring no visible difference in your appearance.

? It's best to take the sample before dying your hair or allow your hair to grow an inch or so before sampling. The same is true for permanents and bleach treatments.

? All analyses are performed by Analytical Research Laboratories (ARL). ARL is CLIA-certified and is one of only a few HTMA labs that uses the proper testing technique. This means that they do not wash the hair sample at the lab--a practice that has been shown to produce erratic results.
